Evan B. Harris, Whales, and All Things Nautical

As some of you know, I've recently become fascinated with whales and all things nautical. I'm currently working on a nautical illustration of a sperm whale and I promise to share that as soon as I'm done. Josh treated me to this beauty as a Valentines day gift and I must say it really is more lovely in person!

I discovered the works of Mr. Evan B. Harris a while ago and was instantly smitten. I quickly added his website to my favorites folder as not to forget about him but alas, forgotten he became. Until a few days ago that is. Evan's work is really beautiful and has a haunting old-timey folk appeal. The line work is exquisitely graceful and his color palette is so dreamy. A lot of his work depicts sea life in some form or another and that's exactly what's won my heart.

Star-Crossed Lover's Map

For the past few days I've been listening to Laura Viers' album July Flame non-stop. The imagery created by Laura's lush music and rich lyrics are lovely enough to make me swoon day and night. I'm all the more enamored with the album art which happens to be done by one of my favorite artists, Carson Ellis, who really does deserve a post all of her own. Hands down my favorite song on the album is "Wide-Eyed, Legless". Have a listen...

Down among the dead
The wide-eyed and the legless, only half a head
Half a mouth to laugh from the porthole
With the more than faded epitaphs

Will you ever more tie up my hair with velvet bows?
Will you ever more pull out the splinters from my toes?
I don't think so

Out in the hornet rain the swarming stingers
Pumping poison through my veins
Lacking on the star-crossed lover's map
Take the beating lash, lash for lash

Will we ever more kiss on the boardwalks fading red?
In the light of the waves and the comets waning tail
I don't think so

No more looking back, looking back, looking back
Faded epitaph

So in Love

Happy February! I love February mainly because spring is right around the corner and of course, because of Valentines Day! I just love love and I love that there's a day devoted to love. I seriously fall in love on a daily basis. I fall so easily. I fall in love with coy smiles and beautiful minds, flouncy dresses and delicate flavors, all shades of blue and green, gentlemanly acts and shiny winged insects, sunlight on pale skin and the perfume of fresh lavender, cold blood oranges, cat-eye glasses and many more lovely love-worthy things. What things make you fall in love? I'd love to hear about it!

Right now, I'm head over heels for these:
I'm dreaming of spring picnics with Sofia wearing this "Dreaming of Blue" dress.
Sweet and bubbly imported drinks from Belvoir Fruit Farms. I'm totally obsessed! The Elderflower drink is my favorite but the little British Import shop I get them from is out right now.
Color samples from my watercolor class this semester.
These heavenly vegan friendly lemon cookies!
The sweet tiny blossoms on my African Violet make me swoon.
